She was a fun, mysterious girl
With her skin only a bit lighter than chocolate
And her big, round eyes to match.
Her hair the color of charcoal,
It came down in soft waves until it reached her shoulders.
And she was never one to wear a frown,
Dancing and singing every where she went.

He was a shy, secretive boy
With his skin only a bit darker than sand
And his big, brown eyes like hers in glasses.
His hair the color of rich earth,
It was short and stood in a neat, combed pile.
And he was never one to leave a rock unturned,
Making sure everything he touched was harmless.

She had come visiting from the big cities,
Her parents claimed her too wild to tame.
They sent her to her aunt to live in the country
Hoping she'd come back with dimmed light
When it was time to come home after the summer.

He had been living there all his life,
Helping the crops and animals grow with his family.
He kept a secret of the abandoned barn
Where he'd go to escape from everything,
And discover his own kind of music alone.

She'd snuck out just as the sun came up
Wanting an escape from the endless chores
She heard her aunt calling after her,
And ran out to the nearest place she could see.
Her brown eyes got bigger as she opened the barn door
And saw the keyboard, guitar, and drums.

He'd snuck out just as the sun came up
Wanting an escape from the endless chores
He heard his brothers and sisters waking up,
And ran as fast as he could to his barn.
His brown eyes got bigger as he opened the barn door
And saw the girl playing something electric on the keyboard.

She played on the keyboard a while,
Discovering the electric enchanting sound she now loved
Wondering who left all these instruments
But more importantly, whose secret was it?

He watched her play on his keyboard a while,
Tapping his foot to the enchanting beat she made
Wondering who this girl was in the first place
But more importantly, where had she come from?

After some time she heard a low, soft tapping
Coming from just outside the door
She went to go take a look,
And instantly grinned at the boy hiding from her.
She didn't even hesitate, grabbing his hand,
And pulling him to the guitar with that wild smile.

After some time the sweet, electro sound stopped
Coming from just inside the door
He heard her footsteps getting louder,
And was pulled to his electric guitar by her hand,
Giving him a wild, dazzling smile.

The days went by, then weeks, then months
And they had become good friends.
She loved the hot, sun sizzled days the best,
When they would walk hand in hand
And dance and write songs together in the meadow
Then of course, there was the day
When they were watching the pond fish dance the ballet
And he asked for a kiss.

The days went by, then weeks, then months,
And he knew they had become great friends.
He loved the damp, storm brewing days the best
When they would write songs and she would dance
Because those were the days when he knew of love.
Then, of course, there was the day
He asked for a kiss, just to see how she'd react
And she kissed him so suddenly that they fell in the pond.

She was sure she was in love
Everytime they secretly met in the barn
And they would make the best songs,
The ones that were raw with meaning.
She grew more sad each day, though,
Knowing that as soon as the last day of August hit
She would be shipped back to the city.

He was sure he was in love
Everytime they secretly met in the barn
And he loved to hear her sing their songs,
The ones that were raw with purpose.
He hated when his head hit his pillow at night, though,
Knowing that as soon as the last day of August hit
He would no longer be able to smile without her.

Then the sad, bright sun rose the last day of summer,
And she ignored her aunt's bickering as she packed her bag
She knew she would miss the days without him,
And she knew he would miss the days without her,
But she wasn't really her
If she didn't have any crazy tricks up her sleeve.

When the early, bright sun rose the last day of August,
And he ignored his brothers and sisters' bossy commands
He knew he would miss the days without her,
And he knew she would miss the days without him.
And for a split second, he wondered what she would do,
Because there was no way she would go without a bang.

Her parents showed up to her aunt's house,
Her mother wearing her boring white dress,
And her father wearing his boring black suit.
She snuck out to the barn once more,
Knowing her aunt was complaining about her to her parents.

He watched the unfamiliar fancy car show up,
A woman wearing a plain white dress,
And a man wearing a plain black suit.
He snuck out the barn once more,
Hoping she'd show up before she left.

She met him in the barn,
Wearing her sad yet happy wild smile.
They sung the first song they ever wrote together
Over and over with tears in their eyes.
And when she heard her parents and aunt calling for her,
She gave him a hug and a kiss, a goodbye and farewell.
She pressed a folded up notebook paper in his hand,
And ran out without looking back.

She found him in the barn,
With a mysterious, happy and sad crazy smile.
They sung the first song they ever wrote together
Over and over with tears in their eyes.
And when he heard her name being calling from afar,
She gave him a hug and kiss, a goodbye and farewell.
He felt the rough material of paper in his hand,
And then watched her run without looking back.

She rode in the car,
Not saying a word to her parents,
Not even when they asked her questions.
She looked out the window, wishing she were with him,
Wondering if he'd figured out her puzzle yet.
She gave a slight smile to the land passing by
When she heard her mother mumble something about
Her still being a crazy, wild child.

He went back to his home,
Not saying a word to his siblings and parents,
Not even when they threatened with more chores.
He lay on his bed, wishing she never left.
He remembered the piece of paper she gave him,
And gave a slight smile as he opened it up.
He laughed to himself at her riddle because
She was still a crazy, wild child.

He ran out to the pond fish who liked to dance the ballet,
And saw the wet rock with the note that read,
"Remember the kiss?"
He ran out to the meadow where they would dance,
And saw the tree with the note that read,
"Remember the song?"
He ran out to keyboard in the barn where she first played,
And saw the note on the first few keys that read,
"Remember the sound?"

She ran to the door on a damp, storm brewing day
She was already in the city,
And there was not a day that went by she didn't think
About the boy she met in the country five years back.
She opened the door, and that was the only moment
In her whole entire life when she was caught off guard.

He knocked on the door on one of his favorite types of days
He had found her in the city
And there was not a day that went by he didn't have
The note she left him in the country five years back.
She opened the door, and he didn't have to question if it were her.
He caught her off guard with the note he held up, and the kiss he planted on her lips.

She gave him that same wild, crazy smile
And he still had the note she left that read "Find me."
She remembered the name of the city she wrote she'd be in,
He read the name of the college she wrote she'd attend,
She remembered the job she wrote she'd wanted,
And he found her by the name she wrote she'd go by.

He brought his guitar,
She found a keyboard,
And somewhere in between they bought some drums.
They weren't in the least bit surprised when they found
That they both knew every lyric and note to the first song
That they sung that day they found each other in the barn.

So she was a fun, mysterious girl
With her skin only a bit lighter than chocolate
And her big, round eyes to match.
Her hair the color of charcoal,
It came down in soft waves until it reached her back.
And she was never one to wear a frown,
Falling in love with him,
The shy, secretive boy
With his skin only a bit darker than sand
And his big, brown eyes like hers in glasses.
His hair the color of rich earth,
It was short and stood in a neat, combed pile.
And he was never one to leave a rock unturned,
Making sure to find that girl from the city.
